Windows Profile Names

For years now, when setting up a new Windows computer your user profile would be established at C:\Users\<username>. During setup you are also pushed to establish or sign-in to a Microsoft account. When you do that, your username is created as the first five letters of your email address. The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed this peculiar behavior on your own computer. I have yet to discover the logic behind this decision, but an upcoming version of Windows 11 will allow you to customize the name of your user folder during setup. This really won’t affect most people, but I’m pleased with this change mostly because it has been a long-requested feature. Microsoft may seem like a tone-deaf megacorporation, but sometimes they do listen to users!
