A Trip Down Memory Lane

I sometimes get asked how the name for our business, Open Road Network Services, came about. There are three reasons. The first is that I like to think it evokes images of an itinerant preacher or traveling doctor going door to door and helping people. The second is that in a prior career I was a civil engineer and actually designed roads and highways. And lastly, (and I must give full credit to my wife for this) when we decided that I would venture out on my own and start this business, she and I were on a road trip together in the Davis Mountains of West Texas. She suggested the name, and I immediately pulled over and took a picture of the two-lane open road going off into the distance. Last week we took a family vacation back to Fort Davis and spent time exploring the area with our kids. Once again, we drove the TX-166 scenic highway looking for the place that inspired the name. I'm not sure we found the exact spot, but the above photo is our best guess. The kids didn't care too much for the trip down memory lane, but they did enjoy the views and wildlife we spotted like hawks, quail, mule deer and even an elk.
