Most laptops these days have an included webcam at the top of the screen. While a small green light next to the camera will let you know if it is on, hackers unfortunately can override that and access your camera. Why? Scammers can record sensitive conversations or video and then use it to blackmail you. While this sounds disturbing, there’s a really easy fix. Simply place a post-it note or sticker over your camera when not in use, or buy an inexpensive webcam cover. Many newer computers also have a physical cover included. It’s a simple way to keep yourself better protected against bad actors.
