Do you own an Amazon smart device like an Echo or Ring camera? If so, listen up! Amazon has recently flipped the switch on a new wireless network sharing feature on some of their smart devices. This means that your existing Echo and Ring devices may share a small amount of internet bandwidth with someone else's Amazon devices nearby. The utopian dream, I suppose, is that this shared network will help enable devices like lost pet trackers. Privacy advocates are foaming at the mouth, particularly since the program is opt-in by default. You read that right: if you own a capable Echo or Ring device you are already part of Amazon Sidewalk! If you want to disable this feature, open the Alexa app on your phone and go to Settings > Account Settings > Amazon Sidewalk. Click here for more details on Sidewalk and detailed instructions for turning it off.
