It seems today, unfortunately, that the majority of consumers have experienced some sort of financial or identify fraud. We see this on a regular basis with our clients who have suspicious charges on their accounts, threatening or scary emails (which are often scams), or sly malicious actors taking over their computer. I know the joke “We’re from the government and we’re here to help” often rings hollow, but the Federal Trade Commission has a very useful website to guide consumers experiencing identity theft on what steps to take. Distilled into manageable steps in priority order, this checklist will help you take the right actions at the right time to limit further abuse. Even if you aren’t experiencing any issues right now, bookmarking this page could come in handy in the future. But hopefully you won’t ever have to use it!
