Know Your Computer

With Windows 10 being phased out, many people are upgrading their computers. We thought this would be a great time to break down what your computer’s main hardware components are and what they do. Hopefully, this will help you decide which upgrades make the most sense for your needs.

Let’s start with the GPU. Using an office example, think of the GPU as the person who’s especially good at making visuals, charts, and presentations. The GPU handles graphics, video playback, and even gaming, making everything look smooth and run properly.

The CPU is your computer’s “brain.” The stronger the CPU, the faster your computer can complete tasks. This is one of the most important components to consider when buying or upgrading a computer, since it plays a huge role in reducing lag and keeping things running efficiently.

When it comes to storage, we highly recommend an SSD (Solid State Drive) over the older-style hard drives. SSDs are much faster and quieter, which means your computer boots up quickly instead of leaving you waiting around.

Finally, let’s look at RAM. Think of RAM as the size of your office space. The bigger the office, the larger the desk you can have, and the more projects you can spread out and work on at once. More RAM allows you to run multiple programs: like Excel, Chrome, and even a video, without slowing your computer down.
