Local Channels Go Dark on Optimum

I have never subscribed to satellite or cable TV and don’t really keep current on plans, but two weeks ago I received many calls about a change to Optimum’s channel lineup: local channels were no longer available. This was the result of a breakdown in contract negotiations between the cable provider and Nexstar, a media group that owns over 200 local TV stations. Thankfully, the two appear to have mended the rift as the channels are back on. It can be a little jarring to be reminded that customers are often pawns in behind-the-scenes financial deals. If this incident has caused you to begin looking elsewhere for local content, you’ll find multiple streaming platforms that include those channels at various price points. Also, consider checking your favorite station’s website or YouTube channel, and don’t forget that you can still using an over-the-air antenna to provide a high definition picture to most TVs.
