Microsoft Makes AI Feature Optional

Microsoft has gone all-in with artificial intelligence, attempting to integrate its Copilot-branded features in Windows 11 and new PCs, even to the extent of having a dedicated keyboard button. One of the latest soon-to-be-released AI features is marketed as Recall, and records your actions and screenshots so you can more easily (ahem) recall something you were recently doing. But there has been big pushback from users who don’t want a computer recording their activity in this manner, and researchers are now beginning to find flaws in the security implementation. As a result, Microsoft has performed a rare pivot and says Recall will be opt-in only. I personally don’t see a huge benefit to Recall, but it’s nice to know that a company like Microsoft does occasionally listen to users’ feedback.
