Uninvited Microsoft Changes

Like nearly all software vendors, Microsoft occasionally makes changes that are applied without the user’s explicit permission. Lately, two examples of this have been frustrating clients. The first is a totally new interface to Microsoft Outlook. This has been in the works for a while but has always been an optional change. Now, Microsoft is beginning to opt-in computers on a rolling basis. For a limited time you can rollback using a toggle in the upper right corner. Luckily this doesn’t affect every version of Outlook, so this may not apply to you (yet). The other frustration is the inclusion of the “Microsoft Edge Desktop Search Bar”. If this has been turned on for you, you have definitely noticed it! It’s a semi-transparent search bar in the very center of your desktop. To turn it off, click the three dots on the right side and de-select “Auto-launch search bar” and then select “Close search bar”. And that’s it!
