Google: Incognito Not Really Private

In yet another example of corporate deceit, Google recently settled a class action lawsuit admitting that Chrome’s Incognito Mode was not as private as it seemed. The lawsuit came after Google employees made their concerns public about the true nature of this Chrome feature. Incognito Mode claimed that your browsing history was private and used the icon of a spy to enhance that idea. However, Google continued to track user’s browsing activity even after that mode was enabled. As a result of the settlement Google will be destroying millions of pieces of data about users’ browsing history, but will not be paying the $5 billion in damages sought by the lawsuit. The lesson here? A healthy skepticism of large corporations’ promises isn’t a bad thing.
