Microsoft Outlook is getting tougher on spam, and helping you identify it. Some changes are rolling out to make spam more visible, and to help you control it. For example, in your Junk folder, the email address is now visible below the sender’s name. Remember that a sender’s name can pretend to be anyone (like “Microsoft Support”) but the real test is if their email address is legitimate. Outlook is also making it easier to report spam and unsubscribe to frequent emails. More notifications may also pop up warning you about opening links from unknown senders. But here’s the big caveat to these improvements – so far they are only available to the New Outlook and Outlook on the web. The New Outlook is very different from the “old” Outlook, and I don’t recommend switching to it just yet. We frequently get spam email questions from clients, and we are always happy to take a look at a suspicious email to help you verify its authenticity.
